ADHD – Treat without Ritalin

January 8, 2010

NO RITALIN FOR CHILDREN/CASE STUDY

So that you moms and dads out there can understand the homeopathic remedy selection process, the following is an ADHD child’s case study:

“Sam” (not his real name), an 8-year-old boy, was brought to my office by his mother. After numerous complaints from his school and the slipping of his grades, Sam had been diagnosed as an ADHD child by his pediatrician. His parents followed the doctor’s prescription for Ritalin which led to an improvement in Sam’s grades and classroom demeanor, but had some pretty serious effects on his mind and body. Sam’s appetite decreased measurably; he lost quite a bit of weight; and, according to his parents, he became “robot like” – slow in thought, non-expressive. Sam’s aunts and uncles also commented on Sam’s “drugged” appearance. At the end of the school year, Sam’s parents decided to wean him off of Ritalin and to seek homeopathic care.

Case Notes Summary:

Slender, frail looking boy
Squirms in chair
Friendly, smiling, talking
Touches items of desk
Asks questions
Hurried, impatient
Impulsive, distractible
Cannot complete a task or even the building of a structure w/ Legos
Very sensitive to music; loves music; dances when music plays
Hands always busy, rhythmic
H/O climbing, tapping and drumming fingers
Jumps up and down when upset
Loves to hide and to play tricks on sister

RX: Tarentula hispanica

Follow Up:

Reported three months into the next school year: His parents reported that Sam has calmed down tremendously. He can sit still in the classroom. His grades have improved to the point where he has earned a merit certificate in math. He can now play happily in his room. He completes wonderful intricate structures with his Legos and erector set. Sam still hassles and teases his sister. Overall, he is calmer in his body and well adjusted. A normal 9-year-old boy.

One intake consultation; three follow-up appointments over a 1-year period of time; two doses of the remedy.

NOURISH, A Retreat for Women

March 15, 2008

Taking a ‘time out’ for self care is a wonderful way to support your healthy body and mind.  Here’s such an opportunity:

NOURISH, A Retreat for Women

I am part of a group of five Sonoma County women experienced in varied fields of health, well being, creativity, and personal potential leading NOURISH, A Retreat for Women, October 16-19, 2008, at beautiful Westerbeke Ranch nestled among old oaks in Sonoma, California. See photos of Westerbeke at http://www.westranch.com   and http://www.westranch.com/scrapbook.html

The retreat is based on the deep need for women to take time off from nurturing others and allow themselves to be nourished. Women will have many opportunities to choose abundant forms of nourishment. Attendees can revel in sensory pleasures of healthy, scrumptious meals, casual comforts, rolling hills, and sprawling oaks at family-owned Westerbeke Ranch, rejuvenate through soul-satisfying experiences of yoga, relaxation, hot soaks, swimming, hiking, massage, reading, napping, walking the labyrinth. Women can choose to reinvent themselves through discussions and exercises on visioning, nutrition, creativity, healing herbs, feng shui. There will be time to focus on planetary health and global outreach, reconnect with Spirit through abundant TLC, ceremony, camaraderie, journaling, and delightful surprises. Participants will return home with tools and inspiration to live in passion, health, joy, and authenticity. I hope to see you there.

    Fall Into Sacredness

Silence. Drink in its nourishment. Stop A moment and be. Pause Striving for perfection and Feel The flawless joy of life, Sacred, In this moment and always. Listen. The pulse of being, precious and divine, Calls. Embrace the rising flood of love to Share With unceasing abundance, Needing nothing to exist.Fall Into the miracle of yourself, The sacredness of being. Now.

Intention

I listened to an interview with Deborah Johnson, Reverend and author of “Your Deepest Intent”, on New Dimensions Radio yesterday.  She shared that it is more important to purify our intentions than achieve our goals, that “our intention goes through the door before us”  and everyone, except maybe us, knows what it is.

My intention in sharing through this blog, my book and CD, and my voice is to share the inspiration of spirit that moves through me as creativity, joy, awareness of sensory grace, as well as the opportunities to learn and grow through life experiences. I also intend to create financial prosperity through helping others experience more joy, do what I love, and fulfill my life purpose.

Deborah also said it is essential for us to do that which connects us with Spirit often and thus build our “spiritual Immunity”. Reading, writing, and speaking my poems with music connects me most powerfully with my heart. I also love to read stories about miracles to my husband. We have an enjoyable ritual of reading something inspirational every day after dinner.

I wrote this poem in Nevada County as I looked out the window at our beautiful countryside. May you be blessed with an appreciation of the beauty in your life.

Quiet Settles Softly

Quiet settles softly as down on a cloud. My soul hungers for this silence which feeds a deep need to know this moment. A coyote hurries along the sloping hill, leaving thoughts of his medicine, a trickster reminding us how we fool ourselves, resist authenticity out of fear. Awareness softens muscles, sinks into my body which contains the truth, not always easy to embrace, but freeing, nonetheless. A tiny bird poises on the tip of a leafless poison oak which bends with her slight weight. The trees are still and await nothing, content to live. Branches drink in the sky, not to take, but to graciously receive and give, simple as breath in and out. Quiet settles deep like roots underground. I find all is well.

Realizing Grace

Hello, I listened to an interview with Arjuna Ardagh on New Dimensions Radio about his new book, “Awakening Into Oneness: The Power of Blessing in the Evolution of Consciousness”. He said to be touched by grace, we must relax frantic doing and acquiring, take our hands off the wheel. He believes and I do that we live in a field of grace.

Reading, writing, and speaking poetry often brings me into an awareness of grace. Here’s one of the poemsfrom my book and CD that embraces this idea.

You Can’t Have Everything

but you can have a tongued velvet kiss beneath tall cedars and oaks flushed with new leaves. You can have a graze of caress up your thigh, the soft brush of summer on honeyed skin. You can have muscles sleek with love and bliss in the buttery sun of morning. You can have birds singing in tree canopies, squirrels that leap, vibrant lobelia and petunias. You can have the smell of lavender and lemon thyme crushed between your fingers.

You can have a window seat with pillows and books of poetry. There are always your dreams of the writer’s studio that overlooks the ocean and delicious words to fill cracks chiseled by disappointment. You can’t clean the house with a twitch of your nose and will it to stay pristine, but you can have pineapple chunks of sunshine through your windows, bowls of rosy peaches, nectarines, ripe tomatoes. You can have a doe and two spotted fawns, a fox and her mate, blue jays, hummingbirds and coveys of quail.

You can’t make parents live forever, though for now, you can have the touch of love in your mother’s voice, the stories of your father’s triumphs that improve each year. You can’t force your sister to stop using meth, but you can send her love through her sieved holes of darkness. You can’t rescue loved ones from their unhappiness, but you can wipe away their tears and remind them to drink in the fragrant beauty of earth and sky.

You can’t stop the effects of aging, but you can view heart-soaring mauves and blues of Eastern Sierras that sweep from desert expanse, camp beneath Mammoth pines. You can thrill with an intake of breath at the sight of a massive bear. The mind’s song may wind notes of want, yet you can sing gratitude for moments full of grace.

Sweet Tongue, Assorted Poems & MusicReviewed by: Bill Gainer

Sweet Tongue, Assorted Poems & Music A spoken-word CD by: Sher and John ChristianReleased: 2007

]”Sher and John Christian’s new spoken-word CD, Sweet Tongue, Assorted Poems & Music, is an enchanting showcase of Sher’s poetic talents and John’s musical craftsmanship. I first ran across a sampling of these poems a couple of years ago in Sher’s book Star Kissed Shadows and was teased at the possibility of a CD when seeing her perform live, at a local bookstore, to John’s keyboard accompaniment. Sweet Tongue, Assorted Poems & Music is a collection of twenty-three wonderfully crafted poems of place, each representing a location, time or moment in the lives of two people who find a deeper meaning of self, love and each other as they travel into the unknown. The poems chronicle the insights, awakenings and discoveries experienced as Sher and John hooked their camp trailer to the back of the car and journeyed from West Coast to East – simply in search of the next discovery. While Sher uses a unique blend of sensual expression and spiritual insight to convey the confessions, observations and emotions of her poems, John brings a splash of musical styles (Cajun, Jazz, Blues, Rock and Country) to ground her words in the moments lived. He whispers when needed, boogies when called for and romances his keyboard as Sher untangles the mystery and magic of a night’s firefly dreams. Though Sher and John’s, Sweet Tongue, Assorted Poems & Music is a collaboration of two hearts, it sounds as if it is of one voice. There is a soothing romantic tone to this collection that invites the listener to surrender to the moment and allow the words and music to carry the imagination to a safe place. Sher and John remind us that all things are possible, especially love. For this reviewer, Sher and John Christian’s new spoken-word CD, Sweet Tongue, Assorted Poems & Music, is an invitation to light the candles, pour the wine and pull the one I love close; an invitation well worth the listening.” To listen to three poems from our CD Sweet Tongue on mp3s go to www.mp3poetry.org E-mail me at poetrysher@gmail.com for information on ordering my book and our CD and having John and I perform for your event.

You’ve got to be kidding! How does homeopathy work???

February 22, 2008
  • Or DOES homeopathy work???  Let’s begin the conversation by stating that homeopathic medicine cured me of Chronic Fatigue Immune Deficiency Syndrome (CFIDS) back at a time when I hadn’t a clue that this type of medicine even existed in the world.  Since studying homeopathy at the Pacific Academy of Homeopathic Medicine in Berkeley, CA (graduated 2006), I now have a thriving practice in the SF North Bay and am more than happy to help you get started in using this form of natural medicine.

Homeopathy Takes its Rightful Place in Great Britain

January 12, 2008
The following just came down the pike to my email inbox:

Sir Richard Branson’s newest project…

According to the Financial Times (January 10, 2008), Sir Richard Branson is launching a new health care business of clinics with family doctors who provide homeopathic treatment alongside conventional medical care.  Ben Bradshaw, Britiain’s health minister, welcomed the launch of this venture saying, “I am pleased that Virgin Healthcare is proposing to work with GPs to help develop more integrated services for patients.”

It is good to know that forward thinking individuals are creating a system where medical care isn’t EITHER/OR, where the patients highest and best interests and his/her right to choose is honored.

If you are interested in learning more about using homeopathic medicine for yourself and for your family, please go to my website (shown below), submit your name and email address for the FREE REPORT offer at the bottom of the Home Page, and I will keep you apprised of my next Homeopathy Teleseminar Training course, which is due to begin again in March 2008.

Healthy Resolutions in a Toxic World

January 2, 2008

As we turn the page and gratefully

slip into the hopeful possibilities inherent

in 2008, many of us are renewing our

personal commitment to health and fitness.

I know that I am.  My promise to myself for

this new year is to continue to love and respect

myself; to use homeopathic remedies instead of

turning to pharmaceutical medications; to eat healthy

foods and portions; to take Amazon Herb formulae

on a daily basis as support to my diet, and to

continue to detox with Natural Cellular Defense

Zeolite.

Over the past year I have found this combination

to be spot on.  With the addition of Zeolite to my

health strategies in the fall of ’07, I discovered that as

my body’s pH naturally recalibrated and rebalanced–a happy

result of the body’s heavy metals detoxification, that

my craving for sweets and red meat diminished.  I also

began to easily and naturally lose weight!! Honest.  No diet

necessary and really no changes in my activity level.

Any bloating that I had been experiencing was also now

not an issue.   On top of that, the herbs and homeopathics

I was taking were now all seemingly supercharged.

I’m sure you are aware that we live in a very toxic world

these days.  Mercury is unfortunately abundant in the air

we breathe and in our water supplies and sea food,

not to mention that it is used as a base in many of our vaccinations;

arsenic poisoning has been reported after exposure to

treated lumber; aluminum is in a lot of our cookware; lead in paint,

and the list goes on.

If you are interested in selecting a safe (for adults, children

and pets) and clinically proven oral heavy metals detox,

NCD Zeolite, as a health strategy for 2008,

please contact me.  I’ll be happy

to discuss my personal experiences, as well as the

experiences I’ve witnessed with my clients’ cases.  (I now recommend

Zeolite for all of my clients and have noted great responses

even in difficult cases including autism and ADD/ADHD.)

With kindness,

Cathleen

A Treasure from the Rainforest

December 8, 2007

As a wise Chinese saying states:  ”You are what goes into your mouth and what comes out of your mouth.”  That’s why I’m an advocate of eating well, thinking well and speaking kind truths.   In the realm of what goes into our mouths, we’re all aware of the challenges of taking time for healthy meals in today’s hurry-hurry-hurry world.  For this reason I have chosen the concentrated nutrition from Amazon Herb Co. as portion of the health recommendations for my clients (and for myself and my family, as well).  Something as simple as a cup or two of delicious tea each day can provide amazing health benefits.  I’d like to share with you a testimonial (below) that I received the other day:My Miraculous Experience with Amazon Herb’s Treasure TeaI am a practitioner of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. I’ve been in practice for 12 years, but this story begins about 20 years ago when I had a mastectomy for breast cancer and a silicone implant was put in. After I got the implant I began to be sick with many things I had never experienced before: severe abdominal cramping, cluster migraines, sharp pains in my major joints, and a very hot and blistered rash on both my hands and feet. In my efforts to ascertain the cause of these illnesses, I had the implant removed.Over the next several years after the removal of the implant, most of my symptoms slowly resolved themselves. However, the rash remained and even increased in virulence.I went to Western Dermatologists; they couldn’t help me. Since I became a Practitioner of Oriental Medicine, I have taken many Chinese herbal formulas to try to resolve the rash. Many were formulated by very well known herbalists in the Oriental Medicine field, teachers, and authors of books on dermatological conditions. All were well trained, respected and experienced herbalists. Some of the formulas helped somewhat, some did nothing. But none made it go away. After a few days of drinking 2 cups of Treasure Tea per day, the rash began to go away. After I had been drinking it for two weeks, there was barely a trace of the rash remaining on my hands. My feet are slower to respond but they too are much better.I didn’t drink the tea for about two weeks as I had to order more. During that time, the rash didn’t get worse again, but stayed healed. There is a saying in Chinese Medicine: “It doesn’t matter if the formula is old or new, so long as it works.” Treasure Tea has worked for me in a way that nothing else I have found does. I am very impressed with and truly thankful for what these herbs, and all the people who made it possible for me to have them, have done for me.  Yours in Health and Healing,Sheila M. Blackman L.Ac. I LOVE receiving personal Amazon Herb success stories from people.   If your interest has been peaked, go to:  www.cathleen.amazonherb.net to learn more.  You’ll find tons of information about the herbal products under the CONCENTRATED NUTRITION tab.  Also notice that these herbs are marvelous for your pets (large and small–see the ANIMAL CARE tab), as well.  My daughter, a holistic veterinarian, uses Amazon Herb products in her practice, as do many other veterinarians and pet lovers across America. Besides the healthful attributes of the herbal formulae, choosing Amazon Herb Co. products also means that you are helping to support Amazon Rainforest preservation.  See www.cathleen.amazonherb.net, click on RAINFOREST SUSTAINABILITY at the top of the home page.  To your health,Cathleen SpringerCertified Homeopathwww.cathleenspringer.com
